Deception Pass State Park

On Saturday we took the dogs for a drive up to the Anacortes area and explored some more of Deception Pass State Park. In the past all we've ever done was go over the bridge and park at North Beach/Cranberry Lake. This time we did start off over there and took the dogs for their 1st ever Saltwater Beach walk. They had a blast! Storm remembered the art of picking up toys from the bottom of the steps in our pool and he immediately began bobbing for rocks, soon realizing they weren't toys. He abandoned that in favor of picking up and carrying sticks. As soon as we hit the beach CJ perked right up like a puppy. They were both so excited.

After our 2 mile beach walk we stopped for a picnic lunch at tables located on a sandbar seperating Cranberry Lake (freshwater) and Rosario Strait (saltwater).

Next we headed out to the other side of the park to hike the Lighthouse Point trail. Along the way we checked out the Cranberry Lake campground, which is pretty nice and then Bowman Bay campground, which is even better! Once there we walked another beach to the start of the trail. We started off great - but at some point lost the trail and ended up bush wacking through what felt like a rainforest. You'll notice in the photo below the trail cuts through the middle and we went all the way around. We ended up finding the main trail again close to the starting point... we had to come down a pretty vertical surface though.

At this point the dogs were pretty tired so we headed for home. Daryl got some nice shots! Here's one, but click here to see the rest!
Here's a video of the pass leading out to Rosario Strait from the trail:
